PSV CUISINE on Wednesday October 30th
When Vicky and her parents, owners of PSV Cuisine in Waterloo, started their Lao restaurant in 2017, they opted for a mostly Thai menu. Speaking of her parents’ decision to keep only 5 Lao dishes on the menu at the time, she says, "they were hesitant for a long time to introduce Lao food to our menu as it is not really known”.
Today that couldn’t be more different. PSV Cuisine is one of only a handful of restaurants in London serving truly unapologetic Lao cuisine with a menu featuring more than 20 Lao dishes.
“If anyone has traveled to Laos, they will find that the majority of the food they ate at PSV Cuisine” says Vicky.
What is Lao food?
One way to describe it would be a giant party in your mouth 😋, hitting sweet, salty, bitter, spicy, umami, acidic and herbal flavours all in one go.
An example? Laab Ped.
We make our ‘Laab Ped’ using well-bred duck, this is minced and cooked with garlic, liver and gizzards. This is all mixed together with fresh herbs, red onions, Lao grounded roasted rice, spiced with chilli powder and flavoured with lemon juice and fish sauce. Served with Kao niew ‘sticky rice’ of course, it’s just Lao we get down 😉 - PSV Cuisine
